【英语加油站】

A good way of improving English
　　Keeping a diary in English is one of the effective ways to improve our English writing ability. Compared with other forms of writing, it is shorter and takes less time. It can help us  keep the habit of thinking in English. If we insist this practice, we'll learn how to express ourselves in English better and better.
　　In keeping a diary in English, we can run against a lot of difficulties .For example, we often have trouble finding proper words and phases to express ourselves. Also, there are many idiomatic ways of saying things in Chinese. And it is very hard for us to put them into English properly. Certainly, there are some other roadblocks we may come across in keeping a diary in English. So take it easy, the best way is to have a notebook and a Chinese-English dictionary within easy reach. Whenever something beats us, we can first put it down in our notebook and then look them up in our dictionary. We can also turn to our English teacher for help if necessary. By this way, we'll learn more.
　　In all, I believe that it is of great use to keep a diary in English for the development of our writing skills.

Random thoughts
　　Whether the most important thing for us is study or not is always hovering on my heart.
　　As time went by, I realize that studying hard is important and will give us a good future. But something special is even more important. It will not only give us a better future, but also enrich our life.
　　First of all, you should learn to open your heart and let others in. Be active and patient to listen to whatever others said. If you only put yourself in center, you will be separated from the society and lose your special style.
　　Second, remember! Nothing in the world is perfect. Try your best to see others’ advantages not only to stare at others’ disadvantages. Be lenient with others and strict with yourself.
　　Finally, pay more attention to affection between family members, friendship and love.
　　Above all, wherever you go, you would be a welcomed person.
　　Maybe, as to the life, and study, you also have much comprehension. , now, come on ! Action

My happy summer holidays
　　In this summer holidays, at first, I finished my homework very quickly. I also attended a math-interesting-group for some days. After that, my father and I were on a visit to Qingdao for four days.
　　Qingdao is a very beautiful city. It is called “green sea and blue sky”. When we reached Qingdao, the weather was changing frequently. In Qingdao, we climbed the mountains and swam in the sea. We also ate some sea food and drank fresh Qingdao beer. Let me tell you, the best food in Qingdao I think is fruit pancake. It is really very delicious.
　　After we came back from Qingdao, my mother and I played badminton every afternoon. I read books at the other time.
　　I think this summer holiday is a very happy holiday full of interesting experience.

Our motherland
　　Today is our motherland’s birthday-National Day. On TV, I know China is great, Chinese people are brave and hard-working. And I know that fifty-five years ago, China was very poor. And Chinese people suffered a lot. Only the Communist Party can lead Chinese people to build New China. The Chinese people can become the hosts of the country. As a word says: Without the Communist Party there would be no new China.

I love China and I love our Party.
　　During the summer vacations, I went to learn how to swim. When I went to the swimming pool, I saw many children swimming happily. The teacher taught me how to hold my breath. I was frightened at first, but gradually, I could stay in water for a long time. After some days, the teacher taught me leg- movements, hand- movements and so on. After ten days of training, I learned how to swim at last. Now I can swim freely in water. How happy I am!

The Best Wishes for My New Term
　　Today, our classes in the summer holidays have finished. And tomorrow, we’ll have a rest. But the day after tomorrow, we’ll go to school again.
　　I still remember that on holidays, I was always expecting to go to school, and I always felt unforgettable  because I have nothing to do everyday. But now, the most special year is coming, all the schoolmates in my age have got ready for the coming term, so have I.
　　Today , Ah Wei told us that about one or two weeks later, we’ll have an examination to choose some good students in English to take part in the English Olympic competition. I am full of confidents.
　　The best wish for myself is that I can pass the exam successful.

France comes to China
“有朋自远方来，不亦乐乎？”—— “法国文化年”带你走进浪漫的法兰西之旅！
　　"FRANCE" is now the hottest word in China. Why? That's because the European country is showing itself off around China.
　　On October 10, French President (总统) Jacques Chirac opened the Year of France (法国文化年) in Beijing. It means that from October to next July, Chinese people will be able to enjoy finding out about France. They don't even need to go to the country.
　　There are world-class concerts (音乐会). On October 10, famous French electronic musician (电子音乐家) Jean Michel Jarre gave a show at the front gate of the Forbidden City. More than 15,000 people were there. There are stunt (特技) shows by airplanes. The French stunt flying team, Patrouille de France, flew over the Great Wall on October 11. The team is one of the best in the world. There are also wonderful exhibitions (展览). On October 10, the "Design of France" exhibition opened in Beijing. The 220 things show almost every side of French people's lives during the 20th century. You can see French chairs, TVs, bicycles and even swimsuits, as well as the stories behind them.
   "I hope all these can help Chinese people better understand France and French culture," said Alain Lombard, the man in charge of (负责) the Year of France.
    Besides Beijing, other big cities like Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Shenzhen and Hong Kong will also hold French events. So don't miss the show!
　　Where did the idea come from?
    IN 1999 and 2000, China held two large events in France — the Paris China Culture Week and the China Culture Season. They were successful and made French people pay great attention to Chinese culture.
　　With more exchanges (交流) between the two countries, Chinese and French people became more and more interested in learning about each other. So, on October 7, 2003, the Year of Chinese Culture started in Paris. The two countries agreed to hold the Year of France in China from 2004 to 2005.

Country road, take me home
　　　Sitting in the bus, carrying a bag of fruit, I felt so excited. The sun shined brightly. The bus ran quickly. Trees and rivers ran behind me. Things in the past came into my minds.
　　　It is my mother that taught me how to pronounce. It is my father that helped me to learn to ride a bike. It is my parents that brought up me.
　　　When I was a child, they were so stick with me. They stopped me from sleeping without finishing my homework. They sent me to a school far from home. So I had to get up early and walked to school all by myself when I was seven. They would rather take me to the farm than play outside. But I know they loved me so much. They tried their best to support me and encourage me.
　　　Once I played late at school after class. It was dark outside I was so scared when walking on my way home. I got to the corner of the street I cried sadly even stopped walking. A light came nearer and nearer  It was my father  I lay on my father’s back and stopped crying . Then I knew mum fell off her bike when hurried to pick up me. “I will never do that again.” I told them.
　　　How time flies! Now I am a senior student  I have to leave them. Though I have been away from them for more than two years. I couldn’t help ringing them. I have complained so much. They always listened to me carefully and encouraged me.. In this way, I felt much closer to them. As time went by, I began to tell them how happy I was and good results in my study.
　　　I was ill badly before final exam. I didn’t tell them at first. They were busy with their work. I suffered from the pain all by myself. Even though I felt a little sad, I thought my parents would be proud of me. I was not a child now.
　　　The next day, I rang my parents. I asked them not to worry about me, but they still came to school this afternoon.
　　　Now I am on my way home. It is the first time that I buy a gift fir my parents. Smelling the fruit as if I saw my parents’ smile.

Saying Good-bye to Cambridge Again

Very quietly I take my leave                           
As quietly as I came here;
Quietly I wave good-bye
To the rosy clouds in the western sky.

The golden willows by the riverside
Are young brides in the setting sun;
Their reflections on the shimmering waves
Always linger in the depth of my heart.

Green fodder growing in the slime,
Flaunt under the water,
In the soft waves of Cambridge ,
prefer to be a float grass!
A pool in the shade of the elm trees,
Is not a fresh water but a rainbow from the sky,
Crumpled into pieces among the seeds,
Settling a dream like a rainbow.

To seek a dream? Just to pole a boat upstream
To where the green grass is more verdant;
Or to have the boat fully loaded with starlight
And sing aloud in the splendor of starlight.
But I cannot sing aloud

Quietness is my farewell music;
Even summer insects heap silence for me
Silent is Cambridge tonight!
